Youth Summer Tuition Program – 8/15/2009

The Youth Summer Tuition Program for primary students started on Jul 14 and would be conducted every Tuesday and Friday.

The summer camp will be held on Jul 31 (Fri) and Aug 1 (Sat). There will be a series of training activities for 30 primary students and 17 mentors in the camp.

Sunshine ladies will visit the students in the camp in 上水展能訓練中心 from 10:00am-12:30pm on Aug 1. Fellowship lunch will follow.

Visit to Xiadong School – 6/9/2008

Our annual visit to Xiadong Primary School – a school of which we sponsored the construction and pay annual visit to – is scheduled on Jun 9, 2008.

Our 12th Annual Dinner – 5/30/2008

Our 12th Annual Dinner has been successfully held on May 17 at Regal Hotel. We had 150 guests joined us in the party “Dancing with Sunshine”; and we raised a total of HK$100,900 that evening.

One third of the proceeds will support the District’s appeal to donate to the Sichuan Earthquake relief. The remaining is funding for our various projects next year.

We would like to thank all of you who came to our annual dinner – thank you for your support and kind donation. As for those who could not join us, we hope to share the joy with you and hope you could join us next year!

Health Promotion Day – 7/22/2007

We are launching a new service project with St John’s Ambulance – HEALTH PROMOTION DAY. The purpose of this project is to arouse the public awareness about Health Care, getting the knowledge of first aid and precaution of some common diseases as well as developing the young generation to serve our community and promote the Rotary Image.

Health check activities:
a) Testing of Blood Sugar, Hypertension, BMI, dental check;
b) Game booths promoting awareness of different diseases such as diabetes, heat stroke and etc

Our club will manage a game booth of “Hepatitis B”. Based on past experience from St. John, we expect 3,000 participants that day.

驕陽初昇 – Youth Development Program: Volunteer Training – 7/7/2007

A joint project with Baptist Oi Kwan Social Services Group

With the success achieved last year for the program, we are expanding the program this year to 50 volunteer mentors (F4 and above students)and 50 P5 and P6 students.

This program aims at assisting the P5 & P6 students to transition to their secondary school life smoothly through the volunteer mentors. In the process, we also hope to build up the mentoring and leadership skills of our volunteer mentors.

The programme has been kicked off with a volunteer training on Jun 30, 2007 Sat.

The next volunteer training will be held on Jul 7, 2007:

Youth Development Program – Volunteer Training – 6/30/2007

This year, we are organizing the Youth Development Program with Baptist Oi Kwan Social Services Group again.

The program will cover 50-60 students in Pri 5 & 6. We have F4 & above students from True Light Girls’ College, St Paul’s Convent, and Queen’s College to serve as volunteer mentors.

The first volunteer training will be conducted on Jun 30, 07 from 10:30pm to 4:00pm at Baptist Oi Kwan Social Services Building in Wanchai.

驕陽初昇 – Youth Development Program: Camp – 6/8/2007

The Youth Development Program ends with a camp for all the participants and volunteers. The camp is held from Aug 6 to Aug 7, 3007 at Sai Kung Outdoor Recreation Centre.

Sunshine ladies were there on Aug 6 in the evening to share our growing pains and gains during our teenager days. The sharing session was followed by the closing ceremony.

Crossroads International is a registered non profit corporation which takes Hong Kong’s quality superseded goods and redistributes them to people in need, locally and internationally.

We truly feel we have been “adopted” by the Rotary clubs here. Chi Heng Charity Drawing Competition – Framing winning entries – 2/4/2007

We are progressing well with Chi Heng Charity Drawing Competition. There were in total approx. 1500 entries raising more than HK$200,000.

On Jan 17, the judges gathered at St Paul’s Convent. All entries were laid out in the school hall – it was a beautiful sight. The judges painstakingly go through each painting and finally
selected 500.

Our next activity is framing the paintings. On Feb 4 Sunday, Agatha has devised a simple way to frame the paintings. We need altog. 20 volunteers. No prior knowledge of picture framing is required!

Living with HIV Foundation Charity Drawing Competition – 1/12/2007

Help the AIDS impacted Children

Chi Heng Foundation is organizing a Charity Drawing Competition to raise funds for children orphaned by AIDS in China. The competition is supported by our club and sponsored by Standard Chartered Bank. It aims to raise awareness of HIV/AIDS and to show love and concern to children orphaned by AIDS in China.

驕陽初昇-升中導航計劃 is a joint project between Baptist Oi Kwan Social Services Group and RC of Bayview Sunshine HK. This project aims to assist Pri 6 students from low-income family in Wanchai District to transition smoothly into their secondary school. The project includes weekly tuition, a youth development camp and other fun activities.

On Jul 15, we had a kickoff with a student-parent briefing and a volunteer training session. 50 volunteers attended the training session and gained a good understanding of the program and some tutoring techniques.

Going forward, tutorials sessions will be conducted on Tue & Thu.

Special Children’s Play Day – 11/19/2005


The event is co-organized by Ling Liang, RC of Bayview Sunshine & PLAYRIGHT. It was held at Gold Coast on Saturday, Nov 19, 2005 with DG Peter Wan as the Guest-of-Honour.

Over 2,000 guests participated including 800 kindergarten students from Ling Liang and children / friends’ children of the Rotarians. We also had over 25 Sunshine Ladies, family and friends & children who joined as volunteers, donors and participants.

A special booth was allocated for Rotary. We promoted the ‘GIFT OF LIFE” project, displayed some of our Club’s history and events, and also displayed some Rotary information to promote Rotary image to the participants.

Our very first community service project will be held from Jul 19 – Aug 20, 2005. This is a joint project with The Salvation Army to provide tuition during the summer holidays for primary school students from new immigrant families or families with low income.

9th Annual Fund-raising Dinner – 5/7/2005

Our theme was China Night. Thank you to the organizing committee, all the performers and sponsors for making it a success!

Visit to Xiadong School – 4/23/2005

Our annual visit to Xiadong School in Southern China. This is an ongoing project since 1998. Our club sponsored the construction of the school and its dormitory.

We had a successsful and enjoyable visit. The school has made a lot of progress since our last visit in 2002. We met the new Principal Mr. Yip, and some senior government officials. The school compound has been further improved. Students’ performance in their studies has significantly improved and the school is now ranked No. 4 in the county. Students now participate in extra-curricular activities like school band and folk dancing.

During this visit, we extended further support to the school through student awards and scholarships, gifts of food, stationery and library books to students as well as teachers and parents. We delivered over 200 sets of stationery sponsored by Carmen Fung. We sponsored 500 story books to the School. We also recognized the outstanding students with
scholarship, and support those students with financial difficulties through sponsorship.

智齡社區大學培訓計劃 – 12/19/2004

Our club is supporting a meaningful program organized by 鄰舍輔導會: 智齡社區大學培訓計劃. This is a program for the mentally challenged to continuously develop new skills.

Part of this program involves performance by the participants in the program. One performance will be held on Dec 19, 2004 and volunteers are required to help out at the venue. Sunshine ladies, let’s support this program by extending your helping hand!

Our annual Community Service Project 敬老扶鄰迎中秋 was once again successfully held. This year, we coorganized the event with Baptist Oi Kwan Social Service Group. The event was held at 鮮魚行學校 from 2pm to 6pm.

To celebrate Rotary Centennial, we extended invitation to 130 elderlys in the area of Shum Shui Po. More than 30 volunteers – Sunshine ladies and their family members – turned up. We provided a fun-filled afternoon with Guzeng performance, singing, games, gifts and photo-taking.

We had our annual fund-raising dinner at Miramar Hotel. A fun-filled evening with the theme “Uniting Rotary and Family”. Many of our members’ family members performed for the evening!

Visit to Yihu School – 6/5/2004

In conjunction with the opening ceremony of the new road at Yihu Village, we visited the Yihu School and donated books to their library. Students and teachers welcomed us.

Centennial Project Opening Ceremony – 6/5/2004

In 2003, we decided to embark on a road construction project in China to celebrate Rotary Centennial. With the help of Mr. George Lung, we identified a road construction project at Yihu Village at Jie Yang, Guangdong Province. In April, representatives from our club visited the site and sought the board’s approval to support the project.

On June 5, the road was completed and opened! This road will benefit all the villagers in transporting goods to and from the village, and will benefit the youngster as they go to school.
Our members witnessed the opening ceremony.

Christmas Carnival for the Underpriviledged Children – 12/7/2003

With Baptist Social Oi Kwan Service Group, we organized a Christmas Carnival for the underpriviledged children in the area of Cheung Sha Wan. The carnival was filled with fun and laughter with a lot of games and challenges, food and drinks, prizes and lucky draw, and of course Santa Claus distributing Christmas gifts!

Vocational Service Project – 9/27/2003

“Work Experience Program” organised with Zion Youth Services during June to August was a success. We got positive feedback from both the employers and participants who have received valuable workplace training.

In order to recogise the supporting organisations and provide an opportunity for the participants to share their experiences, a presentation ceremony was on 27 of September,2003. After the presentation session, a career talk for over 200 F.5 and F.7 students was held to keep them updated on the job market situation.

“Rotary Night” – an annual event which we organize, aiming to recruit more members and to have a fellowship gathering.

DGE Alexander Mak was our speaker and honourable guest. We also welcomed our new member Teresa Chan to join our big Rotary family. Induction was held on the Rotary night.

We were the host club for the District Foundation Seminar.

Care Campaign for the Elderly – 8/2/2003

Together with the “Multi-Service Centre for Senior Citizens” of the Salvation Army Yaumatei, we organized a cCommunity service project “Care Campaign for the Elderly” to provide medical and other services to elderly who are frail and chronically ill, or living alone; or seniors in the Yau Tsim Mong District.

In 4 sessions in two days for the volunteers to choose from, 30 volunteer medical carers and 30 non-medical carers paired up in teams to visit the elderly and provided the following services:
o Stress assessment, especially in related to the SARS threat
o Basic medical check-up and consultation
o Home safety assessment
o Distribution of health booklets and gift bags

The campaign was well received the elderly and all the volunteers involved felt that the project was a very meaningful one.

IPP Sally was invited by District Governor Elect Jones Wong to be the Chairlady of the President Elect Training Seminar which will be held on the 15 of March,2003 at Hong Kong Academy of Medicine from 8:45 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.In order to get more acquainted with each other, a pre-dinner has been arranged for all the President Elects and incoming District Officers in January at Hong Kong Royal Yacht Club with PP Luci as Master of Ceremony.

Chairlady IPP Sally has formed a great and hard working committee which includes the Sunshine ladies such as CP Alvina, PP Luci, PP Amy, Brenda, Peggy, Vivien, Alice Yuen, Vinci and Wong Hoi Kwan… Venue… menu… registration… audio equipments… training documents… oh easy tasks! Our PP Amy will be one of the presenter on the topic “Effective Service Projects” at the seminar.

Rotary Blood Donation Day – 3/8/2003

Our club has organised the Rotary Blood Donation Day on 8 of March at Olympian Hall, UG/F., Olympian City between 12:30 to 7:00 p.m.

The objective of this initiative is to encourage our fellow Rotarians in District 3450 to take the lead in donating blood and to inspire more people to do so. Please help mobilize your network, invite your family members, friends and relatives to support this blood donation drive.

A simple and humble kick off ceremony will be held at 12:30 p.m. at the Olympian City with our DG Gloria as officiating guest.

Walk For A Polio-Free World – 10/11/2002

Our Club and Ling Liang Church Kindergarten are co-organising a “Walk For A Polio-Free World” to support the Polio Plus worldwide.We will meet at Open Plaza, The Peak Plaza Hong Kong at 8:30 a.m. for reception.The Kick Off Ceremony will start at 9:00 a.m.The routing is from Harlech Road to Lugard Road and we estimate that it will only take 60-75 minutes.

In 1985, Rotary International had launched the Polio Plus Program to protect children worldwide from the cruel and fatal consequences of Polio. Rotarians aim to eradicate Polio by 2005.Up till now, Rotary still needs to raise US$275 million by 2005.

This year, Rotary has formed a partnership with the World Bank, the United Nations Foundation, and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Such that every $1.- that Rotary raises will result in $5.- for Polio Plus.

Visit to Xiadong School Guangzhou for the completion of dormitory – 6/9/2002

A visit has been arranged to Xiadong School which we built in 1996-1997. The aim of this visit is to monitor the progress of the construction of a two-storey dormitory for the students who live in Shangdong and have to walk a long way everyday to Xiadong School. This two-storey construction is expected to complete in January this year. Due to some difficulties, it was delayed and will be completed this summer. There will also be a “Presentation of Prizes” to those outstanding students and “Scholarships” to those needy students as well.

District Tree Planting/Fund Raising Walkathon – 4/21/2002

Tree Planting is a District annual event organised by the Preserve Planet Earth Committee to mobilize all Rotarians and their families to enjoy a day out in the country side to help to promote a greener environment for Hong Kong.

As recommended to coupe with the Rotary Show of the year, the District Tree Planting Fund Raising Walkathon was selected to screen play on the Television as a District Activities. Please show our Rotary Spirit and join to enhance the Rotary Image.This meaningul project should be sustainable to echo the Rotary theme: “Mankind is Our Business.”

A Vocational Service on career talk at the St. Rose of Lima College at 29, Ngan Shing Street Shatin New Territories has been arranged from 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. to all students there. District Badminton Tournament – 3/3/2002

Ladies, the District Badminton Tournament will be held on the 3 of March,2002 Sunday at Western Park In Door Game Hall from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
We are having fellowship and at the same time a rehearsal time on every Tuesday evening to prepare for this District event.Again, it is the participation that we all treasure!

International Service Project-Site Visit to Yu Nam Province China – 10/28/2001

A two days site visit to Yu Nam Province China will fall on 27 and 28 of October,2001. It is another international project which will focus on helping the orphans.With the help from Mr. Wong Yu Tang, Assistant Director of HK Island Sub-Office from China Liaison Office, he has arranged a site which include three blocks for the orphans for our consideration. Mid Autumn Festival For The Elderly – 9/23/2001

This is the third Community Service Project for the year 2001-2002.This is also the project which our Club had exercised each year since 1997.Over a hundred of elderly will be served with food,gifts and entertainment at the HK Saint Kung Association at 6,Chun Yan Street, Wong Tai Sin Kowloon at 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Ladies,please share the joy with the elderly with Moon Cakes and Programs you have created for them!Don’t forget to bring along your relatives and friends!

Night of Nostalgia for the Elderly – 8/9/2001

A Two-Day Camp for the Elderly together with their carers will be held on the 8th and 9tj of September. This is a joint Community Service Project with the Salvation Army at Resort Centre for the Elderly, Sai Kung. An opening ceremony will start at 3:00 p.m. on the 8 of September. Special programs have been organised. Ladies, let’s get together…!

First Fellowship Function to Macau – 7/13/2001

Our first Fellowship Function will be a trip for two days to Macau. We will depart from HK at 6:30 p.m and will enjoy a Roasted Pig dinner at Restaurant Lisboa that night. We will stay at Westin Resort Hotel, gambling, swimming, playing golf, gym, body massage, shopping, eating…. Come and join us with your kids and family!

Love Action-Blood Donation Day – 7/9/2001
